Summary

As a board member, don't underestimate your role in data security oversight.

Description

Cost: $35
$20 for Spokes Members

Directors of nonprofit organizations should be aware that in the for-profit sector, there has been increasing litigation against the board of directors with regard to data breaches and failure to implement reasonable data security measures. It is therefore quite possible that similar litigation could arise in the nonprofit sector.

Although there are many laws that protect or limit directors, especially volunteer directors, from liability, they can face exposure in the event of a breach of their fiduciary duties to the organization. All boards should consider steps they can take to minimize the organization’s risk, and their own potential liability if a breach does occur.

Join us and learn:

  • Understanding your personal liability and what you can do to protect yourself.
  • Make data security a priority.
  • Understand the cybersecurity risks and challenges your nonprofit faces.
  • Don’t confuse legal compliance with security.
  • It’s more than just prevention.

This class is geared to members of a nonprofit's board of directors, but others certainly are welcome. This class is online; the link will be sent with registration acknowledgement. This class will be recorded.
