Gifts? Donations? Contributions? Call them what you will, all nonprofits rely on them. For some, gifts represent their main source of income. For others, gifts may provide the subsidy that enables a program to be better or to serve more people.

Gifts can come in many forms. Cash, stocks, and in-kind goods or services are typical examples. Then there are more exotic items people may wish to donate to your cause such as a piece of property, a lovely oil painting, or the timeshare they wish they'd never purchased. Join us to learn "why you need a gift acceptance policy before you need a gift acceptance policy." Topics will include:

  • Developing a policy that fits your organization—what goes in it for sure, what's optional
  • Keeping the board of directors involved and aware
  • Understanding the IRS concept of "non-standard contributions"
  • Protecting your organization from the gift that "never stops taking"
  • How to gracefully decline a gift not in alignment with your policy
