Exclusively for Nonprofit Board Presidents and Board Chairs

Serving as Board President or Chair of the Board is a big commitment. This roundtable is a facilitated discussion that provides a peer environment where you can work through questions and challenges that you are experiencing in your leadership role. This is not a formal presentation or workshop. Come prepared to participate. In this roundtable you’ll engage with other board presidents to share challenges, brainstorm solutions, and build connections with each other.

Only the Board President / Board Chair may participate in this event.

Facilitated by: Michael Simkins, Ed.D.
Michael has been a member of several nonprofit boards and served as board secretary, treasurer, and president. His professional experience spans the education and nonprofit sectors from being a school principal in Los Osos and Cal Poly lecturer to CEO of a major Silicon Valley nonprofit. Currently, he is board president at San Luis Obispo Repertory Theatre and president of his local property-owners association. Currently, he is Spokes’ Interim CEO.

You must log into your Spokes account, or create an account, in order to register. If you have difficulty, call (805) 547-2244 or email info@spokesfornonprofits.org.

Roundtable Guidelines

• Agenda: 15 minutes of introductions/announcements, 30 minutes of spotlight discussions (2 to 3 individuals will have the chance to share a specific topic/need to the group and solicit feedback, suggestions and guidance.  Topics can include sharing what is keeping you up at night, asking for something you need or sharing an announcement or development about which you are excited), 15 minutes to close. Exchanging of business cards and organization materials is welcomed and encouraged!

What happens in the roundtable, STAYS in the roundtable.  Our ability to be honest and open with each other about the challenges we face depends on our ability to trust each other, offer mutual respect and use discretion.

Only one representative from an organization may participate.  No other board members or other staff will be included (in keeping with our commitment to confidentiality)

• These sessions will only be as helpful and supportive as we are in our participation and commitment to one another.
